Responsibilities

Position Summary:


The Medical Laboratory Technologist, CMMG obtains specimens and performs routine clinical laboratory
testing using automated and manual procedures to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease,
following established standards and procedures. A Medical Laboratory Technologist’s functions include:
review of daily work, review of maintenance logs, and review of quality control. The Medical Laboratory
Technologist, CMMG is responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care in the physician office
setting as assigned. Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills on behalf of Central Maine Medical
Group (CMMG). He/she promotes teamwork with staff, physicians, and personnel in other departments; and
supports the values of CMMG. The Medical Laboratory Technologist has a B.S. degree n Medical Laboratory
Science or Health Education and Welfare (HEW) degree.


Essential Duties:


• Demonstrates ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry,
hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology.
• Performs high-complexity testing.
• Performs basic troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance procedures independently as determined
by supervisory observation.
• Collects and prepares specimens with efficiency and accuracy for subsequent testing to ensure the
accurate and timely reporting of results used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Interprets physician orders and accurately records and verifies the results and findings of procedures
via the computer system.
• Follows policies and procedures related to medico legal matters, including confidentiality,
amendments of medical records, patient rights, medical records as legal evidence, informed consent
and release of information.
• Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric
patient.
• Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks.
• Demonstrates knowledge of expected lab values for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and
geriatric patient.
• Notifies patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values.
• Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
• Meets current documentation standards and policies.
• Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance
improvement activities.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the
likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Follows standard precautions at all times.
• Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
• Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all
current technologies.
• Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CLIA, state and other regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members within the organization.
• Demonstrates the value of team concept on a consistent basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned
