Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Medical Technologist to join the Rumford Hospital Pathology team!

Responsibilities

 

The Medical Technologist performs routine and complex procedures in blood bank, chemistry, hematology, serology, microbiology, urinalysis, and phlebotomy.

  • obtains and receives specimens, performs clinical laboratory tests by standardized procedures, understands method principles, performs quality control, performs preventative maintenance, and interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
  • works independently, organizes work to meet established deadlines, records all data obtained, and maintains job competence.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist MT/MLS/MLT/CLT by ASCP or equivalent, required within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent computer and inter-personal skills.

Essential Duties:


• Demonstrates ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry,
hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology.
• Performs high-complexity testing.
• Performs basic troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance procedures independently as determined
by supervisory observation.
• Collects and prepares specimens with efficiency and accuracy for subsequent testing to ensure the
accurate and timely reporting of results used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Interprets physician orders and accurately records and verifies the results and findings of procedures
via the computer system.
• Follows policies and procedures related to medico legal matters, including confidentiality,
amendments of medical records, patient rights, medical records as legal evidence, informed consent
and release of information.
• Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric
patient.
• Performs quality control procedures and instrument checks.
• Demonstrates knowledge of expected lab values for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and
geriatric patient.
• Notifies patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values.
• Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
• Meets current documentation standards and policies.
• Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance
improvement activities.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the
likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Follows standard precautions at all times.
• Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
• Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all
current technologies.
• Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CLIA, state and other regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members within the organization.
• Demonstrates the value of team concept on a consistent basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned
