Position Summary:
The Central Maine Hospitalist will provide professional medical care, specializing in the assessment and treatment of inpatient obstetric and gynecologic admitted within the Central Maine Health Care (CMHC) system. This position is night shift only and plays a key role in delivering safe, compassionate care during off-hours.
Essential Duties:
Interact and communicate with patients, Central Maine Nocturnist and other physician colleagues, nursing and all other CMMC staff members in a courteous and professional manner
Reliably perform in-hospital medical coverage of patients admitted within CMHC
Reliably fulfill work shift requirements at night and weekend shift rotations per the schedule set by the Central Maine Hospitalists Medical Director or his/her designee (the annual number of required hours worked by each nocturnist will be based on the individual nocturnist’s full-time equivalent status as indicated in his/her employment agreement with CMHC)
Ensure that shifts are covered by another physician if illness or other emergency issues prevent the nocturnist from fulfilling his/her scheduled shift demand
Medical management of patients cared for by inpatient obstetric and gynecologic practices covered by Central Maine Nocturnist who require hospital admission within CMHC
Medical management of “unassigned” patients who require admission within CMHC
Assist with the transfer and care of patients from other facilities who require treatment within CMHC
Medical co-management or medical consultative support for patients on subspecialty or surgical services
Manage labor and delivery patients and respond to GYN emergencies
Provide timely, appropriate and thorough patient care documentation in the form of written daily progress notes, and dictated history and physical admit notes and discharge summaries
Provide comprehensive communication to the patient’s outpatient providers in the form of the dictated reports noted above and by personal communication, when necessary, to report significant findings or changes in a patient’s health or care status
Competency with and effective use of the multiple forms of electronic record keeping utilized by CMMC and the physician groups covered by Central Maine Nocturnists
Medical record completion according to the rules and regulations administered by Health Information Management as approved by the Medical Staff and administration at CMMC
Review and discuss work concerns or complaints within the administrative framework established by Central Maine Nocturnist and CMMC
Participate in educational efforts initiated by Central Maine Nocturnists
Participate in the medical training of medical students that work with Central Maine Nocturnists.
Regularly attend meetings mandatory for the medical staff of CMMC
Participate in and support Quality Improvement initiatives developed by administration and/or medical committees at CMMC, including the development, implementation, or maintenance of clinical pathways, treatment guidelines and diagnosis specific order sets
Serve on and reliably participate in hospital committees at CMMC when requested by the Central Maine Hospitalists Medical Director or CMMC administration as part of the hospitalist’s regular assigned duties (a reasonable number of committee or extra-clinical duties will be assured based on Central Maine Hospitalists group consensus as to acceptable extra-clinical work hours averaged monthly)
Responsible for other duties as outlined and defined by the bylaws of the CMMC Medical Staff and/or as stipulated in the hospitalist’s contract or employment agreement with CMMC
Education and Experience:
Basic computer skills required to perform duties
Active ACLS certification
State of Maine Physician Licensure
Member of CMMC Medical Staff
Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology required
Active DEA license in good standing
Strong clinical skills in inpatient obstetrics and gynecologic
